Thanks to the Briar Cliff coaching staff for giving them that opportunity.”


The Crofton Lady Warriors made quick work of the Knox County volleyball tournament this year in Wausa. The Crofton girls took a 2-0 sweep of Bloomfield on Oct. 14 and then doubled down on Creighton’s Lady Dawgs with a second 2-0 win to take the tournament.


The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources-Floodplain Management Division will be holding a training session in Albion on November 6.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Casey’s Community Building, at 2616 Fairgrounds Road in Albion. Those wishing to attend can come for a whole or half day, with a noontime lunch on their own.

The Rural Northwest Deanery Council of Catholic Women will hold its Fall Deanery Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spencer.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with meeting to begin at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Deacon Roger Filips will speak on Prayer, Discernment and Spirituality.

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) wants to remind equipment operators to keep a focus on safety around power lines as they head out to the fields for harvest.
When large equipment gets too close to a power line, electricity can arc to the equipment, leaving the equipment damaged with the potential to cause serious or fatal injuries to the operator.

The Crofton Fire and Rescue will be hosting an open house event on Thursday, Oct. 10 for the public.
The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the volunteers will have hot dogs and allow kids to check out the trucks.
All are invited to come and tour the department.

The Lady warriors traveled to Stanton and took second place in their tournament on Saturday, September 21.
They defeated the Twin River Titans and the Cedar Catholic Trojans, but lost the final round to the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots.


After battling five sets the Crofton Warrior volleyball team took the loss against the Class C-1 Pierce Bluejays at home on Thursday, September 19.
Scores by set included: 15-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16, and 14-16.

The Crofton Lady Warriors took home first place as a team at the Norfolk Catholic Cross Country Meet on Friday, September 13.
Blowing through the competition, junior Sophia Wortmann was the top runner for the Warriors at the Norfolk Catholic Invite, coming in at third place with the time of 21:32.22.

The blood drive held in in Crofton on Thursday, September 19th was a resounding success.
The drive staff registered 19 donors and collected 22 units of blood, potentially saving up to 66 lives.

The Crofton Congregational Church located at 412 W. Main St. in Crofton will welcome harpist and flutist, Pastor Michelle Fink for a special music ministry Sunday to be held on October 6, 2024 beginning at 10 a.m.
This special musical event is free and open to the public. Refreshments and apple cider will be offered. All are welcome.
Pastor Fink will play her harp and flute, as well as give her testimony titled, “A Message in Music with Pastor Michelle.”

Secretary of State Bob Evnen has encouraged Nebraskans to register to vote on National Voter Registration Day, September 17. Nebraska is home to 1,240,389 registered voters.
To avoid duplicate voter registration applications, Nebraskans are encouraged to first check whether they are registered to vote in Nebraska on the state’s VoterCheck website. If they are not properly registered or their voter registration is not current, they can complete a voter registration application online. Nebraskans can also register to vote by mail, at a state agency (DMV, DHHS, Dept. of Ed.), via a deputy registrar or via a personal agent.

Visit Nebraska has announced that applications are now open to be on a stop on the 2025 Nebraska Passport. All destinations in the state are welcome to apply to become a stop. Past stops have included restaurants, museums, outdoor adventures, retail stores, wineries, breweries, arts destinations and more.
The Passport program, which celebrated its 15th year in 2024, helps travelers to discover Nebraska’s hidden gems, as well as benefits the 70 chosen stops through increased visitor traffic, sales and visibility.

Main Street Treasures has planned two special shopping days with all proceeds going to benefit the Carl and Nancy Schieffer family on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28.
On Friday, the store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and staff will have the door open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Proceeds from the shopping day will go to benefit the Schieffer family - Breanna and Katelynn and their medical expenses while recovering from their accident two weeks ago.

The Crofton Lady Warriors opened their 2024 volleyball season against the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats in Hartington on Thursday, August 29 with a win.
Crofton came out looking like they were on a mission to conquer their goals: getting their first win of the season. When they took the court for warm ups, it looked like they were picking up from where they left off last season, excited to work their way back to another state appearance.

Crofton Cross Country coach Mickey Doerr says this year will be more of a reload than a rebuild.
After graduating seniors Elizabeth Wortmann and three-time State Champion Jordyn Arens from the girls team, Coach Doerr will have to fill their shoes.
“Rylie Arens, Sophia Wortmann, and Emily Guenther, have a lot of experience that will be huge for us collectively. The team will need to raise its floor so that no one person needs to carry the team,” coach Mickey Doerr stated.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, the Ponca Historical Society and Ponca Tribe of Nebraska gathered at Ponca State Park to unveil a new historical marker.
This marker recognizes the Ponca Tribe's first village, a sacred place of the tribe's history.
The marker is eight years in the making and was contributed through a grant from the Nebraska State Historical Society. “This monumental day was an exciting opportunity to represent and share the Ponca Tribe's history and stories for generations to come.” said organizers.
