The rescheduled Lewis & Clark Conference wrestling tournament for the Trojan and Lady Trojan wrestlers was held on Monday, Jan. 23 in Creighton with both teams submitting competitors.
All wrestlers on both Wakefield teams placed at the event.
The Wakefield boys team took sixth place overall and the girls won 16th in the team standings with 26 teams taking the mat this year.

Lady Trojans
115: Natalee Ramirez submitted her tournament for medical forfeit. She received the fourth-place medal.
125: Maria Perez won 5-1 over Schultz of West Point-Beemer; lost by pin to Thein of Madison; lost by pin to McGillivray of Stanton and lost by pin to Holtz of West Point-Beemer. Perez won third-place.
130: Michala Beaty lost by pin to Hansen of Stanton; lost by pin to Olson of Quad County; lost by pin to Boell; lost by pin to Perez-Ramirez; and lost by pin to Dorado of Madison. Beaty won sixth-place.
140: Mayte Flores Garcia lost by pin to Butterfield of Stanton; pinned Whitley of LDNE; pinned Russman of Winser-Pilger and lost by pin to Zeleny of Oakland-Craig. Flores Garcia won third-place.
145: Briana Martinez submitted her tournament as medical forfeit, and received the seventh-place medal.

113: Samuel Chase pinned Fischer of Wakefield; won 15-2 in major decision over Carlson of Winside; and won by pin over Burtt of Winnebago. Chase won first-place.

Madison Invite
The Wakefield Trojan boys’ wrestling team traveled to Madison for a wrestling invitational on Friday, Jan. 20, picking up 27.5 team points on some placing finished by the local grapplers.
Wakefield’s team put together enough points for a 12th place tie out the 14 teams that were at the event. Columbus Lakeview took first-place honors with 188 team points. Other teams included Logan View, Crofton, Boone Central, Wisner Pilger, West Point-Beemer, Howells Dodge, Madison, Cedar Catholic, Stanton, Grand Island JV, Bancroft-Rosalie and Twin River.
Samuel Chase won a fourth-place medal at 113, and Franco Tapia won a sixth-place medal at 126.
