Wakefield basketball started off the season right with both the girls and boys teams winning the season opening jamboree at home against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars.
The girls started the game seemingly evenly matched by Howells-Dodge and in the first half it looked as though fouls might be an issue for the team. The sterling offense of Jordan Metzler and the strong defense of Alex Arenas and MaKenna Decker, with no small help from Metzler as well, kept them in the game. In the second half though the girls settled down and although the Jaguars kept up with the Lady Trojans they were the ones who found themselves in foul trouble that kept the game out of reach ending in a score of 58 to 51 giving the pre-season win to the Lady Trojans and their new head coach Cory Brown.
The Trojans started out there game versus the Jaguars aggressively both driving to the hoop with Cade Johnson and Johnny Birkley leading the way and from the three point line with Eliseo Sarmiento sinking several three pointers. Once the game was firmly under control coach Joe Wendte began giving some of the Trojan bench some time on the court before Birkley lead the boys to victory 46-36.
