Wakefield Legion Post 81 held their annual Memorial Day program to honor the fallen heroes of Wakefield on Monday, May 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wakefield Cemetery.
Jim Clark started proceedings with some stories about local veterans Don Grella from Laurel who fell in Vietnam, Steve Wilkerson from Wakefield, who also fell in Vietnam, and Charley Havlat from Clark’s hometown of Dorchester. Clark’s speech was competing with the strong wind and so has been run in its entirety on page 2 of this edition of the Republican for those that couldn’t hear him at the program.
The reading of Wakefield’s fallen followed with the duties being split between Clark, Jon Geiser,
and Gary Salmon. Then Charity Potter, Pastor of Wakefield Presbyterian Church gave a benediction before the fallen were honored, the flags retired, and the program concluded.
