The Wakefield Trojan and Lady Trojan track and field teams have been preparing the last few weeks for the start of this year’s track season, which has been planned to kick-off next Tuesday, March 29 at Stanton.
Head Coach Mike Hassler will start his 15th year as the track and field head coach, and his 17th year with the program. Hassler will be assisted by Assistant Coaches: Austin Galles, Iris Borg, Timaree Hansen, Gavin Volkers and Veronica Guenther.
The teams will have a number of returning state qualifiers to help lead their teams this season.
For the Trojan track and field team, returning qualifiers are: Logan Bokemper, Gabe Lamprecht, and Cade Johnson, and for the Lady Trojan team: Jordan Metzler.
Hassler gave his comments about the returning competitors, including:
Lady Trojan Outlook:
We return a strong nucleus of girls that gives us an opportunity to be a little more competitive in team races this season. These ladies had a strong off-season in the weight room last summer and I’m excited to see that translates to the track. As the season progresses I think we have a chance to put together some solid relays and put up some points in the field events, hurdles, and sprints.
Trojan Outlook:
Though we lost a talented senior class I think we have a good core group of boys coming back. We have the chance to put together some strong relays and should have a good balance across the board in the running events. There is definitely a need for some underclass men to step up and fill some holes, but if we can do that we have the potential to have a strong team that can finish in the top half of a good portion of our meets.
