The Little Red Hen Theatre is set to present "A Very Die-Hard Christmas" December 9 through December 11 in Wakefield.
"Tis’ the season for DIE-HARD," said Little Red Hen Theatre Managing Director, T. Adam Goos. "The Little Red Hen Theatre has been overrun with nerf guns, water pistols, dangerous throw pillows, and a cheeky sense of humor as we get ready to premiere the production of "A Very Die-Hard Christmas."
Goos went on to describe the production.
“It’s SNL (Saturday Night Live) sketch comedy meets action movie meets Christmas – in other words, it’s a hilarious riot”, said Goos. "The show is a parody of the classic 1988 action film 'Die-Hard', which just happens to take place at Christmas."
The debate on whether or not Die Hard is an actual Christmas movie is yet to be settled.
While the cast itself may not all agree on that topic, they are in agreement that this show is serious fun.
Originally created and produced by a sketch comedy troupe of out Seattle, the show allows for a great deal of improvisation from the actors and what Stage Director T. Adam Goos refers to as “loose storytelling”.
"We aren’t tied to the script as we might be with other shows.," Goos said. "It allows us to work the scenes over to make them more relevant to us – and ultimately more funny and enjoyable for the audience.”
The actors have been spreading their wings, bringing new material to the rehearsal every night – and finding new ways to make their director laugh.
“If the performances are half as fun as the rehearsals have been – the audience is in for a great time," Goos said.
Whether DIE-HARD is a true “Christmas story” or not remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - the Little Red Hen Theatre’s production of A Very Die-Hard Christmas promises to be entertaining if not exactly heart-warming.
Featuring an armada of nerf guns, water pistols, slow-motion stage combat, and lots of other gags, the show is shaping up to be a blast.
The Little Red Hen’s production of A Very Die Hard Christmas features Mike Mogus as gritty New York Cop John McLane, Meg Engel as his corporate executive wife Holly Gennero, Mike Pommer as the evil mastermind Hans Gruber, Elizabeth Carlson as the loveable but damaged LA beat cop Sgt. Al Powell, Braden Kern, Audrey Loggins, and Melanie Loggins as nerf-gun wielding henchman, Barb Farup, Charity Potter, Garret Robinson, Allison Bruckner, Abby Schademann, Dawn Reimers, and Brandon Dorsey in a variety of character roles, and Sharon Boeckenhauer as the Narrator.
A Very Die-Hard Christmas will be presented at the Little Red Hen Theatre over three performances December 9 to 11, at 7:00 p.m.
The show is recommended for audiences ages 13 and older, for situational humor and some language.
