A sing-a-long before the groups split up at VBS.

A record number of "Rainforest Explorers" took part in Vacation Bible School last week and a record number of helpers were on hand to tend to the participants.

"I told everyone last week 'y'all need to come find out' what we're up to," Our Saviour Lutheran Church Pastor Patti Meyer said. "We had a great group of kids possessed by the Spirit of God."

According to Pastor Patti, around 66 kids attended VBS this year and 34 people signed up to assist with the record number of participants.

"It was a fabulous turnout of kids and we had plenty of help," Pastor Patti said. "It really is contagious when you get the Kiddos together singing and praising."

A meal was provided each night from Monday through Wednesday with a program presented on Thursday evening at the church.

"Throughout the week we had nearly 70 kids," Pastor Patti said. "I'm sure we had at least that many at the program Thursday night - it was great."

The 34 community helpers were also believed to be a record according to Pastor Patti.

"That was just simply wonderful," she said. "To get that many people to help is just amazing."

Dan and Val Bard grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for the group attending the program and the performers at the program.

"I think the more things we do like this as a community, the more we become a community," Pastor Patti said. "It's not we and they - it's us."

Wakefield Vacation Bible will be held at Covenant Church in 2022.
