A graduation ceremony was celebrated earlier this summer, but a promise made by Wakefield High School principal, Matt Farup, will result in a diploma presentation to each graduate on August 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the high school gym.
Farup promised a group of students back in March their diplomas would be handed to them individually, they would not be mailed.
In keeping that promise after all that has transpired since March 17, the ceremony will come with some rules.
Graduates are asked to come to the school an hour before the scheduled ceremony for practice.
Each graduate will be allowed seven guests to attend the ceremony which will be called the graduate’s “group”.
The “group” is required to arrive at the school together and will be seated together with the group’s graduate, making the maximum number of eight allowed by the current DHM.
It is suggested the group meet in the parking lot and enter.
Email Farup at mfarup@wakefieldschools.org to register your group for attendance. You will be emailed an arrival time once all of the groups have been identified.
He will need to know the numbers in your group (less your graduate).
Markings will be available to keep groups a safe distance apart.
Your group will be escorted by by a school attendant to seats by your graduate.
Masks will be available at the door and are required at the ceremony.
Remain seated throughout the ceremony.
Groups will be dismissed one at a time by the school attendant.
You are asked to return to your vehicle and leave the school premises after the ceremony.
Any gathering of groups before or after the ceremony on the school premises is prohibited.
