Celebrating a point

The Wakefield volleyball team went 3-2 over the course of the past week to improve its season record to 8-12 after a somewhat rocky start to the year.

In their most recent contest, the Trojans hit the road on Monday, Sept. 30 to take on Tri County Northeast in a matchup that just didn’t go the Trojans way.

The contest started out close, with both teams trading blows in the first set until the Wolfpack were finally able to pull away and win 25-21. The second set, however, was not as close.

The second set was dominated by the Wolfpack, and Wakefield just couldn’t get enough momentum going to stop the hard-hitting TCNE squad. The Wolfpack earned a 25-10 victory in set two to go up 2-0.

With all the wind taken out of their sales, the Trojans tried their best to mount a comeback, but it just wasn’t possible. TCNE managed to finish the job in set three with a 25-20 win and send Wakefield back home with a loss.

Prior to their loss to TCNE, Wakefield travelled to Laurel for the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (LCC) triangular on Thursday, Sept. 26.

In the second match of the evening, the Trojans took on the LCC Bears, who had the Trojans number from the get-go.

Against the Bears, the Trojans were unable to keep up. The first set was fairly close, with the Trojans actually leading 16-15 midway through the set, but LCC was able to use a rally to pull away at the last second and take home a 25-18 victory.

After that set loss, the Trojans just weren’t able to get things going in set two. The second set was all Bears from start to finish, as LCC pulled out a 25-15 win to sweep the Trojans.

However, the Trojans didn’t leave the Triangular without a win. Prior to their contest against LCC, the Trojans played their first game of the Triangular against the Wynot Blue Devils.

This matchup was very even, and both teams showed how badly they wanted to take home a victory.

Fortunately for the Trojans, it was Wakefield’s night to shine. The Trojans managed to win two straight sets by a score of 25-22 to take home a well-deserved victory.

Just two nights prior to the LCC Triangular, Wakefield hosted its own triangular. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Wakefield hosted the Randolph Cardinals and the Walthill Bluejays.

Wakefield was easily the best team at the triangular, and they set out to prove it. Walthill entered the contest with just four wins on the season, while Randolph had just one to their name.

Against Walthill, the Trojans showed no mercy and were the more well-rested team, as they had just came off of a one-game break.

Their skills along with their rested bodies proved to be enough to dominate the Bluejays in a sweep, as they won set won 25-14, and set two 25-15.

Prior to their rout of the Bluejays, the Trojans had yet another dominating performance, this time against Randolph in the first game of the evening.

As expected, this game was all Wakefield from the get-go. While set one was closer than some would’ve imagined, the result was still a sweep for the Trojans, who won set one 25-19, and set two 25-12.

Isabella Andrade led the Trojans in kills for their victory over Randolph with five, while Alli Brown posted a game-high ten aces and Boston Brown put up 14 assists.

Wakefield will continue its regular season with another triangular hosted in Wakefield on Tuesday, Oct. 1, which will feature Wausa and Hartington-Newcastle.

Following the triangular, Wakefield will take on Crofton in Wakefield on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
