The Wakefield Trojans hosted the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays in Wakefield on Friday, Sept. 27.
Unfortunately for the Trojans, the contest was mainly a one-sided affair, but Wakefield put up a solid fight throughout most of the contest as they scored the second-highest number of points they’ve scored all year.
The Bluejays entered the contest undefeated with a record of 4-0, but the Trojans didn’t enter the contest timidly, and that was clear from the get-go.
The first quarter was full of hard hits by the Trojans and some fast-paced offense by the Bluejays. Unfortunately, while the Trojans were doing the best they could to slow down the undefeated Bluejays, their offense just couldn’t quite keep up and GACC found itself ahead 13-0 at the quarter break.
Unfortunately for the Trojans, the Bluejays managed to score on a halfback dive up the gut on the very first play of the second quarter to grow their lead to 19 immediately.
Despite their backs heavily against the wall, the Trojans managed to respond for the first time all game with their very next drive.
With just 9:23 left in the first half, senior Tim Kaufman took a designed quarterback run 37 yards to the house to put Wakefield back on the board and breathe some life back into the home crowd.
Unfortunately, Wakefield’s breath of life didn’t last very long as GACC responded right away with two scores in just under four minutes to grow their lead to 33-6 with five minutes left in the half.
Wakefield did manage to punch the ball into the endzone one last time before the half ended once again on a designed quarterback run up the gut by Kaufman. This touchdown made the score 33-12 going into half.
Wakefield continued to try to fight back in the second half, but its 21-point deficit proved to just be too much to handle.
The Trojans managed to score once more in the second half, this time thanks to a 48-yard touchdown pass from Kaufman to Mason Lamprecht, but the Bluejays responded with three more touchdowns of their own to put the game on ice.
When the final whistle blew, it was GACC who landed on top by a final score of 54-19.
The Trojans now sit with a record of 0-5 on the season but will have a great opportunity to earn their first victory of the season with their week 6 matchup.
The Trojans will host their final home game of the season on Friday, Oct. 4 when they take on the Wolfpack for their homecoming game.
The Wolfpack enter the contest with a record of 1-4. Kickoff for Friday’s contest is set for 7:00 p.m.
