The Wakefield Trojans football team kicked off its season on Friday, Aug. 30 with an away game against Wausa/Osmond.

The contest got out to a solid start for the Trojans, who gained momentum early and jumped on top of Wausa/Osmond to take a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Wausa/Osmond managed a touchdown and a two-point conversion, but Wakefield managed to answer with a touchdown of its own to maintain an 18-14 lead going into halftime.

Unfortunately, the contest drastically changed in the third quarter.

Wausa/Osmond figured out what it needed to do on offense to get through the Wakefield defense, while Wakefield’s offense didn’t have enough in the tank to respond like it needed to.

After outscoring Wakefield 22-6 in the third, Wausa/Osmond had retaken the lead for good. Wakefield continued to fight in the fourth quarter, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome as Wausa/Osmond managed to hang on for a 50-32 victory.

Unfortunately, Wakefield’s schedule doesn’t get any easier in the coming weeks. For their next contest, the Trojans are set to take on the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 6 for the Trojan’s home-opener.

The Wildcats are entering the contest 1-0 after a dominating victory over Ainsworth in Week 1 of the 2024 NSAA Football Season.

Kickoff for Wakefield vs. Hartington-Newcastle is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Prior to the contest will be Parent’s Night, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.
