The Wakefield girls and boys track teams have finished up their regular seasons this past week with a trip to the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on Thursday, May 2.
Amongst a tough field of competition, neither Trojan team was able to bring home a team plaque, but both managed to leave with multiple medalists on both the girls’ and boys’ side.
Jordan Metzler brought home the only gold medal of the day for either squad with a first-place finish in the 800M race. On the boys’ side, it was Cael Johnson and Jesse Lundahl leading the way for the team. Johnson took home a second-place medal in the 300M hurdles, while Lundahl took home runner-up honors in the discus throw.
With the 2024 regular season coming to a close, the Trojans will now set their sights on the Class C District 4 track and field invite on Thursday, May 9 in Hartington. There, the Trojans will compete against individuals from nine other class C schools to attempt to qualify for the 2024 NSAA Class C Track and Field Championships later this month.
