The Wakefield Trojan speech team will put it all on the line at the Class C1-3 District Meet on Wednesday, March 13 at Bancroft-Rosalie Community School.
After a year of hard-fought meets, sleepless nights and very early Saturday mornings, the Trojans have one last guaranteed meet for a shot at the class C1 NSAA State Speech Championships on Thursday, March. 21.
The Trojans are coming off of the Lewis and Clark Conference Speech Invite on Monday, March 4 as well as a speech showcase held at the school library on Monday, March 11th. At the conference invite, the Trojans had two thespians come away with medals in the Next-in Finals, giving the squad some momentum going into districts. The speech showcase gave the students a chance to perform in front of their friends and family as well as get one last practice in ahead of the district meet.
Wakefield has been assigned to the third district in Class C1 and will compete against seven other schools in a fight to keep their season alive.
Other schools that will compete in the Class C1-3 District Meet include Crofton, Homer, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Louisville, Oakland-Craig, Omaha Nation, and Winnebago.
The meet will be held at Bancroft-Rosalie Community School, with the first round of speeches beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The top three places in each event qualify for the State Championships, meaning many thespians will see their season come to an end on Wednesday.
