The Wakefield Lady Trojans finished up their regular season and began their postseason adventures this past week with meets on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and Friday, Feb. 3.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30 the Lady Trojans took on the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament, where they found much success. The girls placed first, winning Wakefields first ever girls wrestling conference tournament with 136.0 team points, and all eight wrestlers earning medals in their final regular-season meet of the year.
The Lady Trojans ventured to West Point-Beemer for the NSAA Subdistrict 2B tournament where the Trojans would see many wrestler’s seasons come to an end.
Out of the seven wrestlers competing to keep their seasons alive, the Trojans had just two wrestlers, Maria Perez and Natalee Nelson, place inside the top four to advance to the District tournament in York on Friday, Feb. 9 for a chance to compete at the NSAA State Wrestling Championships.
If Perez and Nelson are able to place inside the top four at districts, they’ll earn a spot at state. The NSAA State Wrestling Championships will take place from Thursday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 17.

100: Michaela Beaty lost to Jump of Homer by decision; defeated Gomez of Lakeview by fall; lost to Werner of Chadron by fall.
115: Erica Chicaj Pol lost to Wortman of Randolph by fall; was defeated by Thompson of Yutan by fall.
120: Angie Miranda lost to Raue of Tekamah-Herman by fall; won by fall over Argueta of York; lost to Wacker of Yutan by fall.
125: Maria Perez won by fall over Ramirez-Torres of Wisner-Pilger; won by fall over Cameron of Tekamah-Herman; lost to Campbell of Yutan by fall; won by fall over Colegrove of Lakeview. Perez qualified for the District tournament.
145: Mayte Flores Garcia won by fall over Carter of Logan View; lost to Recinos of Lakeview by decision; fell by fall to Naeve of Wayne.
170: Jazmynn Scott lost to Vasser of Nebraska City by fall; was defeated by Jordan of Blair by fall.
190: Natalee Nelson lost to Hinneh of Omaha Marian by fall; won by fall over Garcia of O’Neill. Nelson qualified for the District tournament.

120: Angie Miranda won by fall over Hoskinson of Winside; defeated Hoskinson of Winside by medical forfeit. Miranda placed first and scored 30.0 team points.
130: Maria Perez won by fall over Olson of Randolph; was defeated by Mosel of Plainview by fall. Perez placed second and scored 19.0 team points.
145: Mayte Flores Garcia lost to Wilkie of Winnebago by fall in back-to-back matches. Flores Garcia placed second and scored 12.0 team points.
155: Jazmynn Scott lost to Krueger of Winside by fall in back-to-back matches. Scott placed second and scored 12.0 team points.
190: Natalee Nelson lost to Earth of Winnebago by fall in back-to-back matches. Nelson placed second and scored 12.0 team points.
