The Tri County Northeast girls’ wrestlers competed at the NSAA Subdistrict 2B competition in West Point on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a chance to keep their season alive.
At the end of a hard-fought day with numerous competitors from all across the state competing for a spot in the top four to advance, only one TCNE wrestler was able to successfully continue their season.
Calie Cockburn placed inside the top four of the 170-pound bracket by securing a win in the consolation semifinals. With this win, Cockburn has earned a spot in the District A2 competition at York High School on Friday, Feb. 9.
There, Cockburn will battle it out in an effort to place inside the top four of her weight bracket. If she does so successfully, Cockburn will earn a spot at the NSAA Girls Wrestling Championships from Thursday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 17 in Omaha.
Individual Lady Wolfpack results from the NSAA Subdistrict 2B competition in West Point are as follows:
100: Jenni Olson lost to Owens-Webb of Wayne by tech fall; defeated Johnson of Stanton by decision; lost to Beckwith of Logan View by fall.
170: Calie Cockburn won by fall over Aulner of Randolph; defeated Marksmeier of West Point-Beemer by fall; lost to Vasser of Nebraska City by fall; defeated Vaughn-Lantzer of Yutan by decision. Cockburn placed inside the top four to earn a spot at Districts.
