Jordan Metzler, the senior point guard for the Wakefield Lady Trojans, has surpassed a milestone many high school basketball players dream of achieving.
On Friday, Dec. 15 against the Stanton Mustangs, Metzler surpassed 1,000 points in her high school career.
Despite how easy she may make it look on the court, Metzler’s accomplishment has been hard-fought and well-earned. As a junior, Metzler was forced to miss nine games with a torn tendon in her shooting hand, keeping her from reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
“I’ve been coaching Jordan since she was a freshman,” said Head Coach of the Lady Trojans, Cory Brown. “She’s a hard worker and a great leader, the definition of a true competitor.”
For the past four years of her career, Metzler has been a leader both on and off the court, being described as someone you enjoy being around.
“Jordan is a great athlete and a better young lady,” Brown said. “She will be greatly missed at Wakefield in all sports. I am fortunate to have been able to coach her and get to know her over the past four years.”
Metzler plans on attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall of 2024, where she will continue her athletic career on the Cornhusker Track and Field team.
“They are lucky to have her,” said Brown.
In the meantime, Metzler and her team continue to work together to accomplish success on the court. The Trojans sit at a record of 8-7 with just three regular season games remaining, not including their conference tournament.
