Wakefield Community Schools One Act team has been busy hosting Allen on Friday night and then hosting the town for dinner on Saturday.  But even before this past weekend they began their season with the Wynot One Act Festival last Wednesday.
“The Wynot Festival on Wednesday was our first competition, it allowed us to work out some kinks and get more comfortable in front of an audience and judges.  The students enjoyed this outing but learned a lot from it being the first competition” said One Act coach Donna Johnson.
Then on Friday they hosted Allens one act team for a duel in which both teams found having their production so close to home useful. “We had some extra judges, Brian Johnson and Pastor Ernesto Medina.   While Allen performed, Brian and Ernesto as well as both Wakefield coaches, Donna Johnson and Katelyn Pommer gave critiques.   When Wakefield performed, Allen's coaches switched with Wakefield's coaches” said coach Johnson.   “Allen's coach, Kami Murphy, shared with us that she thinks that it was a good event, we both hope to do this again.  The Wakefield students loved seeing the Allen students and another way to get feedback to improve the show is always beneficial.  I enjoyed the experience and plan to host another duel or even a triangular in the future.”
The big event this weekend was the Dinner and Show fundraiser on Saturday night.  A large crowd was on hand to enjoy a meal of pulled pork sandwiches before watching the team perform this years play ‘By Zeus, Olympus’ Next Top Hero’.
“The Wakefield One Act Dinner & a Show did very well!   We received lots of comments on how much people enjoyed the food, the environment, and the show.   The students and coaches feel the same way” said coach Johnson.  “Though it is a lot of work, we had one act parents, staff, and community support for it.   We sold around 115 tickets and almost everyone came to the show.   This being the first year, we found some ways to improve and hope to get more of the word out and make acquiring the tickets easier.”
“Yes, we hope to do this again next year” Johnson said.
The group performed on Tuesday for Lewis and Clark Conference competition in Homer, and will be back in Wakefield for a community performance on Tuesday, November 21st at 2:30 p.m. in the main gym at the school.  Then a week later on November 28th they will be in Ponca for the district competition.
