Recently the Lady Trojans volleyball team’s season came to an end in the second round of the sub-district tournament against Oakland-Craig. Although the season didn’t end as well as hoped coach Brittany Eisenmann still sees a lot to be proud of, and a lot to look forward to for Wakefield Volleyball.
“What a season! Obviously, we didn’t expect our year to come to an end the way it did, but I could not be more proud of what this team of ladies accomplished throughout our season” said Coach Eisenmann. Some of the Lady Trojans feats this season included making the gold bracket at the Jean Groth Volleyball Tournament, being named the Lewis & Clark Conference Runner Ups, and ending our season with a 25-9 record.
“These ladies set big goals for themselves and our team this season, and fought hard to reach each of them” said Eisenmann.
A big part of this season’s success was due to the veteran experience they relied on from a large number of seniors: Katie Borg, Daveigh Munter-McAfee, Jordan Metzler, Ashlyn Boeckenhauer, and Michaela Beaty.
“This group of seniors is unlike any other that I’ve had the opportunity to coach. These ladies are the definition of team players- they make sure that their teammates are taken care of. It is so much fun to watch the seniors take the underclassmen under their wings, and see those relationships grow throughout the season” said Coach Eisenmann. “This group of seniors are also hard workers, they lead by example and push their teammates each and every day. They bring positive energy to our court and made us smile, but also kept us focused on the tasks at hand.”
Katie Borg ends her varsity career with 122 aces, 1,149 digs, 57 set assists, 11 kills and 1,445 serve received balls.
Daveigh Munter-McAfee ends her varsity career with 70 aces, 746 digs, 16 set assists, 953 kills, 35 blocks and 749 serve received balls.
Jordan Metzler ends her varsity career with 155 aces, 880 digs, 2,410 set assists, 266 kills, 39 blocks.
Coach Eisenmann believes the future is bright for the Lady Trojans despite losing 5 graduation. “Next year we will have nine varsity players returning. Of those nine, five saw quite a bit of playing time” Esienmann said. “We have a lot of talent coming through in the next couple of years and I look forward to seeing our girls step up and compete at a high level.”
