Downtown Wakefield this past weekend was host to a hot time, both because the temperature for the day reached triple digits and because the town hosted its annual Wakefest event.
Though the late summer heat drove away some of the crowd normally on hand to participate in events like the Michael Foods Color Run, Wakefest Parade, and street fair there were still many people enjoying the festivities.
In addition to the events earlier in the day the afternoon had five groups of grillers battling to de-throne last year’s winners of the wing contest, Megan and Brady Weaver along with Colin and Lisa Riley, as well as Abby Heimann and Rylan Weaver.
However this year saw another victory for the Weaver/Riley squad, and marks the Weavers fifth win in the last six years.
While the food and drinks were being enjoyed along Main Street, the stage next to Sidelines hosted music from the Chad and Amy Duo, Mason Michaels and the Backroad Spirits before the event’s headliner, AM/FM Totally 80s, from Lincoln, and the musical evening wrapped up with mariachi band, Alexis y sus Cabelleros.
