Four Tri County Northeast track and field athletes competed in the Nebraska State Track and Field Meet in Omaha on Friday, May 19th.
The competition was very good in Class C, said Coach Dave Uldrich, and none of the Wolfpack athletes could gather a medallion for their efforts.
“The efforts of the athletes in Omaha did not disappoint us,” said Coach Uldrich. “There are ups and downs in this sport, but the athletes peaked at the right time of the year to make it to Omaha, and the reward for hard work paid off. Hudson Morgan ends a career that brought his best efforts at the right time. We will miss him in the program. Hudson’s persistence should be a model for all our athletes in the program. I believe our youth that participated here are already thinking about possibly returning one year from now. Everyone in our communities should be proud of the work put in by these athletes as well as the entire team. Congratulations athletes on a great season.”
Two girls, Kiya Tornez and Bre Millard, represented the Wolfpack girls’ team, while Jackson Belt and Hudson Morgan represented the Wolfpack boys’ team.
Freshman, Kiya Tornez, competed in the long jump, finishing 18th with a jump of 15’5 ½”. It was a nervous start for the freshmen, as she had posted a jump of 16’6 to win the district. Nonetheless, she made amends later in the day by running two personal/career best times in the 100- and 200-meter preliminaries.
Tornez posted a 12.82 in the 100-meters which ranked her effort 12th in the field. She followed it with a 26.83 time in the 200-meters finishing 13th in the field. None of Tornez’s efforts were good enough though to make finals in any of the events.
Sophomore, Bre Millard, returned to Omaha for the second consecutive year to take a run at the 300 hurdles. Millard posted a time of 48.43, finishing 12th in the field. Millard’s time was slightly less than her run in Omaha in 2022, when she posted a personal/career best time of 48.10.
Sophomore, Jackson Belt, coming off a district winning high jump of 5’11”, cleared opening height of 5’10” in the event and couldn’t quite clear 6’. Belt finished 16th in the field. Belt’s season/career best entering the state meet was 5’11”.
Senior, Hudson Morgan, ended his track career by earning the trip to Omaha with a runner-up finish at the district meet, posting a season/career best time 41.10 in the 300 hurdles. Morgan clipped a couple of hurdles during his preliminary heat in Omaha and finished with a time of 42.35, good for 15th place.
