Plainview FCCLA donates to Kment family

At last week’s Valentine’s Day special basketball games with visiting Creighton’s Bulldogs, a few special presentations were made to support the Chad and Nan Kment family and her fight with cancer.

Pink “Kment Strong” t-shirts were all over the gymnasium, a silent auction was held by the Chamber of Commerce, a walking taco benefit, the concessions profits, an FFA bingo game and two special presentations by the 6th Grade Plainview Elementary class and the Plainview FCCLA chapter at halftime.

Elementary Principal Jen Hodson introduced representatives of the sixth-grade class that presented the Kment family with $2,000 from the class’s annual pie sales event. Each year the class donates funds to something they agree on as a class.

The FCCLA was represented by Advisor Ronita Jacobsen and Weston Hoffman, who gave the family the proceeds from this year’s record-selling “candygrams” that are done each year during Valentine’s day for near $250, and reported that they had set up a “fuel fund” at Steinkraus Service to help prepay travel expenses like fuel and oil changes for their vehicles. Anyone that wishes to donate to the “fuel fund” can do so at Steinkraus Service.

Chad Kment read a special thank you from his wife, Nan, to all those that have already donated their time and assistance to their journey.

A Caringbridge.org site has been set up where the family is recording their events and providing updates.
