The Plainview Pirates girls’ cross country team travelled to Niobrara for the Niobrara/Verdigre Invite on Thursday, Sept. 5.
Three Lady Pirates made the trip to Niobrara, with two competing in the varsity division and one in the junior high division.
For the varsity runners, the field of runners was small, but the competition was fierce. Despite the tough competition, Makenzie Mosel managed to find a spot in the top ten to lead the duo with a time of 28:24.00.
Ashlyn Forbes finished the race slightly behind Mosel with a time of 34:55.00 which landed her in 17th place in the varsity portion of the competition.
Because there were only two Lady Pirates competing, Plainview did not have the chance to take home the championship team plaque.
Following the high school race was the junior high race, where Ella Nincehelser was the lone Pirate representative.
Similar to the high school races, the competition wasn’t plentiful, but the competitor’s race times were solid. Nincehelser finished with a time of 8:00.00 to earn 14th place overall.
With the Niobrara/Verdigre Invite now in the past, the Lady Pirate runners will continue their regular season and compete at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on Friday, Sept. 13 at 3:00 p.m.
