Plainview Pirates senior Spencer Hille was able to finish out his basketball career on a high note in more way than one. Hille not only helped the Pirates grab the fourth-place trophy at the 2024 NSAA Class D-1 State Basketball tournament, but in the process of doing so he was also able to reach and surpass the school’s career rebounding record. Hille was able to finish out the 2023-24 season with 194 rebounds, which was good enough to give him 692 rebounds in just three years as a Pirate, a new record for the school.
Throughout the season, Hille was one of just two seniors on the Pirates basketball team charged with the responsibility of being a true team leader in all aspects of the game. In the 2023-24 season, Hille averaged 12.6 points per game while shooting 55% from the field to lead the team in scoring.
Hille wasn’t just a shooter, however, as he loved to get physical below the basket, and grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game. Hille, who only played three years for the Pirates, ended his career with 1,034 points, 692 rebounds, and 177 assists. Hille tallied an additional 75 rebounds his freshman year with another school, making his career total in rebounds 767, although the school record will read 692.
